President of Brazil tests positive for Covid-19
It has just been announced that the President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro who recently talked down the impact of Covid-19 on his Country, has tested positive for the virus. He broke the news to reporters himself this evening. President Bolsonaro was seen wearing a mask when he broke the news. Although the President is displaying symptoms, he is said to be in good spirits.
Only last month a Brazilian Judge told the President to behave and wear a mask during his journey through the Capital. He was warned that he could be fined 2,000 reais, which is equivalent to £310, if he continued to flout the law.
Brazil which has a population of over 212 million people, is currently ranked 2nd in the World behind the United States with over 65,000 Covid-19 deaths so far.
The President stated that he had gone in for additional tests on Monday and that the doctors confirmed that his lungs were healthy. It is the fourth time the President has taken the test. The President was once quoted as saying corona virus was “a little flu.” He made the comment in April when the death toll in his Country was still under 3,000. He even stated then that if he did by chance contact the disease, he would “not have to worry as I wouldn’t feel anything, at most it would be like a little flu or a little cold.”
The president confirmed he was currently taking hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin to combat the disease.
